License transfer

QIAGEN Bioinformatics (formerly CLC bio) software licenses are specific to the machine they are downloaded to. A given machine is identified by its host ID, which is generated from the MAC address. To start using your QIAGEN Bioinformatics software on a machine with a different MAC address, we have to take steps at our end to release the license from its connection with the older host ID. Once we do this, your license order ID can be used to download a license to the system with the new host ID.

Situations where you will need to ask us to release your license from the hardware it is tied to include:

  • You bought a new machine and wish to run your QIAGEN Bioinformatics software on that instead of the old machine.
  • You have replaced your machine due to hardware failure.
  • You have changed the network card on the machine the software is running on.
  • You have carried out any other action that would lead to a change in your machine’s MAC address.

What is the host ID for a machine running the QIAGEN CLC Workbench?
