Position Description

As a Senior Content Scientist with the Content Group, you will be part of a collaborative, cross-functional team of curation scientists, knowledge engineers, product owners, software and quality engineers building powerful tools to gain biological insight into RNASeq and DNASeq data. We have built a world-class knowledge base (KB) rich with molecular and functional relationships derived from scientific literature and biological databases. By structuring previously unstructured biological knowledge, the KB provides the foundation for our biomedical data-interpretation capabilities. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong background in biology and a focus on clinical genetics to use and expand these skills and help maintain and improve our suite of scientific software applications.

Essential Functions:

Work with product owners, scientific and technical team members to understand and refine requirements, use cases, and workflows of product features.

Think critically about our content, the application features, and the scientific literature to ensure end-to-end accuracy and integration.

Participate in the investigation, definition, refinement, and documentation of software requirements.

Collaborate with the groups responsible for software testing to ensure appropriate tests are generated and maintained.

Design, maintain, and refine curation protocols and support curation scientists as new developments in the literature are encountered.

Position Requirements

Minimum:

Strong foundation in human genetics.

Ability to interpret and critically-evaluate the primary literature and databases in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry & human genetics.

Familiarity with general biological resources (such as NCBI Entrez Gene, PubMed, OMIM, ClinVar), tools/techniques (DNA sequence analysis, NGS technologies) and data interpretation.

Demonstrated ability to solve problems and analyze data.

Preferred:

3+ years in an information-oriented function or role; or experience in a regulated laboratory environment (cGLP, CLIA, etc.).

Experience in variant interpretation, familiarity with genome browsers, human disease mutation databases, and functional annotation sources.

Understanding of cancer biology and general pathology.

Familiarity with ontologies, especially biomedical ontologies such as GO, SnoMed, HPO, NCI.

Experience in curation from scientific literature and/or analysis of genetic data

Personal Requirements

MD or PhD in the biological sciences, preferably in field relating directly to human genetics or human disease.

Enthusiastic to learn new technologies, including bioinformatics tools, explore diverse content, and algorithms.

Team player

Preferred:

Supervisory, leadership, project management, teaching, or mentoring experience.

Working with international team members.

The estimated base salary range for this position is 100.000-135.000 USD.  Compensation will be based on the candidate’s experience, skills, geographic location, and other job-related factors. In addition to base salary, we offer a total compensation package that includes annual performance bonus and generous benefits.
